Your risk for type 2 diabetes can be managed however, diabetes has no definite cause so, there isn’t ever a 100% way to avoid diabetes. When attempting to lower your risk for type 2 diabetes, following a few steps can go a long way.

Some things are genetic

Your risk for diabetes is increased if you have a sibling or parent with type 2 diabetes.

The older you are, the higher your risk is for diabetes. The risk peeks at age 45.

African-Americans, Latinos, Asian-Americans, and American Indians tend to have a higher risk for diabetes than Caucasians.

How to lower your type 2 Diabetes risk

Having excess fatty tissue will cause your cells to be more resilient to insulin.

Abdomen fat will increase your risk more than hip or thigh fat.

Not exercising increases your risk for type to diabetes. Exercising will use up glucose and will help your cells respond to insulin.

Avoid eating lots of junk food. Junk food will spike your blood sugar faster than almost anything else.
